Rick Rolston – President and Founder
Rick Rolston has over 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur in delivering software and web-based information services. Rick started in the late 1980’s developing a business plan that secured $2 million of financing for an environmental law publishing company that had a side interest in construction lead publishing. After successfully growing the publishing business, he turned his attention to the construction industry and launched ConFax Publishing, the first information service to distribute construction sales leads electronically. After Southam Inc. purchased ConFax in 1995, Rick and his partners launched Ingenium Technologies Corporation which focused on software development of information technologies for the construction industry. As Co-Founder and CTO of Ingenium, Rick developed the first successful web-based software as a service (SaaS) application for sales management in the construction industry. This service was picked up by McGraw Hill and became the industry standard for construction lead management.
After 22 years of reporting on new building construction, Rick began to consider how information services could be used to improve the operation, management, and ultimately the sustainability of existing buildings. In February 2011, Rick sold his interest in Ingenium and launched BuiltSpace Technologies Corporation.
Not only is Rick an ambitious entrepreneur with extensive software expertise, but he also dedicates his time to philanthropic initiatives. Rick and his wife are founding members of the Dean’s Circle at the SFU Beedie School of Business. They are also involved in charitable activities through the Vancouver Foundation and other community organizations.
Rick holds a BSc(Agr) in Agricultural Economics from UBC.
